This was made for the 2025 Game Jam for a memory game on 8 bit computers.  Mine is for the C64, written in Assembly and used as a learning project for me to improve my understanding.

Instructions are found pressing I when the game is loaded.

Use S and X for up and down, Comma and full stop (, .) for left and right

It does not seem to work

What issue do you have with it?  I've just checked the download and it's running fine in Vice3.9 SDL2 and on my Commodore 64 breadbin (PAL).

I just get a black screen after it has done loading the game. I am using Vice 3.8 on a Mac, and it does also not work on a Commodore 64 Ultimate Elite.

I've replicated the issue with the black screen using 3.9 GTK and I suspect it may be the same with the SDL version.

When I checked the settings, I found that (I have this on by default)  autostart mode is set to Inject into RAM.  when I have it as a virtual filesystem, I also get the black screen

I suspect this is also going to be the same for C64Forever also.

I will see if I can figure out what is going on with this though.  Thanks for letting me know.

It may take a few days as I'm working on the next Game Jam, but I will give this some time also

Ok - I just had a quick look and have made a change.  It now runs on VICE without using Inject to RAM.  Can you check please?

I still cannot get it running on C64Forever.  Is this the full version or the free version (I just have the free version)

I also don't have a Commodore Ultimate Elite so I am wondering if it's a similar issue

(1 edit)

The new version you made works on the Commodore Ultimate Elite, and once I choose "Inject into RAM" in Vice 3.8 (Mac) it also works. So everything is good now :-)

One other thing, maybe you should rename the webpage to "Tile Quest" instead of the current "Memory Game" so that it is easier for others to find your game when searching?

Merry Christmas!

Hmm, one thing I noticed is that the dark green border seems to chop of some the playing field.

Hi Stuart.

For some reason I can't get the game to work, I've tried it on Vice64 and C64 Forever. Both just give a black screen. Any advice please?

I've just downloaded it and it ran fine.  Can you check that you are using PAL but I have also run it in NTSC and it still works (though looks a bit odd)
I'm running it in Vice 3.9 SDL 2 as a C64C.  Not checked it on C64 Forever

Just checked and it definitely isn't running on the C64 Forever free versio

Hi Stuart and thank you for your answers.

I have also tried the same Vice 3.9 SDL 2 C64C &C64 PAL / NTSC and Vice 3.9 GTK 3, but no effect. Just a black screen. I use PC & W11.

I have only gotten it to work with the CCS64 V3.9 emulator.

Ok. I will try different settings in Vice and see if i can figure it out

Hi Stuart.

Now it works on Vice64 after I turned on "Inject into RAM".

Thanks for the help.

I've just assembled it and simply put an RTS as the first line, and it just shows a black screen, so I suspect this is a C64 Forever issue rather than the program now.

I'm going to mount it in a  .D64 file and see if that helps

D64 and slow loading the game made no difference - just goes to a black screen before it's even run.  I really suspect now that it's a c64 forever issue.

Are you using the free or paid for version?

I have uploaded a new version that fixed the issue that the other person was having with the black screen and tested this on both versions of VICE 3.9 SDL and GTK and can confirm it's working.

This isn't just a memory game, it will change your life!

Thanks Gray - you've had no issues with it then
